Region 9 LGUs promote good nutrition during COVID-19

LGUs in Region 9 are strengthening their efforts to promote good nutrition amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic not only disrupted the daily lives of all Filipinos but also worsened malnutrition in the country due to rising prices of goods and loss of jobs, making the role of LGUs in promoting health and nutrition more vital than ever - a position that Region 9 LGUs took seriously.

LGUs in Region 9, such as Zamboanga City, Isabela City, and the Municipality of Kabasalan in Zamboanga Sibugay, strengthened their health and nutrition programs through the following best practices:

  • Including fresh vegetables and fish in their food distribution
  • Providing vegetable seedlings and encouraging families to start their home garden
  • Launching a food truck delivery service that brings local produce directly to buyers

These initiatives not only promote good nutrition for LGU constituents but also help support the livelihood of local farmers and fisherfolk.

This project is supported by The Asia Foundation in cooperation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
